Foster Update - Dakota is starting to feel more comfortable in our home and is slowly coming out of her shell. She does startle easily with loud noises, and is scared while riding in the car but she is gaining confidence each day. Since she is healing from her spay, her walks have been short. She does get startled by loud cars/trucks or just outside noises and will try to run away while on leash. She just needs some basic leash training, as she tends to pull a bit and zig-zag due to excitement. Dakota came to us underweight due to previous circumstances, but she is now on a healthy diet and adjusting well to a consistent daily routine. she is very food motivated and does counter surf looking for food. She does eat quickly and is currently using a slow feeder bowl. During mealtimes she is separated from our other dogs, as she tends to finish first and try to eat their food as well. As she continues to learn that meals are provided regularly, we expect these food-related behaviors to improve. Dakota is learning what it’s like to live inside a home. She is learning basic house manners and catching on quick. She didn’t seem to be potty trained, but she has quickly caught on and this is day 2 of no accidents inside. Overall, Dakota is a sweet girl who loves to cuddle and be close to her humans. She has also met our two cats and has shown no reaction to them. She would do well either as an only dog or in a home with other dogs. She is medium to high energy and will make a great family dog with a little bit of patience and continued training. Introduction - Dakota is sweet, petite (just weighing about 35 lbs), and a total sweetheart. She’s a follower who sticks close to any dog friend she meets. She’s still learning the ropes and doesn't seem to know any commands yet but seems to be housetrained. Dakota’s cat status is unknown. She will be available for meet-n-greets once she has healed from her spay surgery. Stay tuned for more details.
