Foster Update - Jewels is an incredibly sweet dog and has already shown signs of how loyal she will be. She does very well riding in the truck and walks nicely on a leash. She tends to gravitate toward women and takes more time to warm up to men. Once she feels safe, her affectionate nature really comes through — she truly just wants to be loved. She has learned how to sit and has also figured out how to use the doggy door. She is still having some accidents inside, and we are actively working on house training her. Given her background, we believe this is part of her adjustment, and we are seeing gradual progress. Jewels has short bursts of high, uncontrollable energy that usually last less than five minutes. When she wants to play, she’ll grab shoes or clothing as a way to engage. We are working on curbing jumping as she continues to learn boundaries and impulse control. Because of these energy bursts, we don’t believe she would be a good fit for a home with a toddler at this time. She does show higher anxiety around food, which we are carefully managing and working through with consistency and routine. Separately, Jewels is easily spooked by loud or sudden noises. We are helping her build confidence by slowly exposing her to new sounds and environments at a pace she can handle. We’ve begun walking her just outside our property. She is okay being out briefly but tends to pull back toward home, which seems to be a comfort and safety response. On short walks, she has done well with cars and motorcycles passing by. We recently took Jewels to our local brewery as part of her socialization, and she did very well overall. She enjoyed interacting with our female waitress but did bark at a male waiter, which aligns with what we’re seeing regarding her initial hesitation with men. We are intentionally and slowly socializing her, and she has been handling new environments and experiences well. Jewels has a protective bark when she hears unfamiliar sounds and is just beginning to play with toys, which has been encouraging to see. Overall, she is a loving dog who wants connection and reassurance, and with patience and consistency, we believe she will continue to blossom. Introduction - Jewels is a purebred Lab that will be two years old on Valentine’s Day, an appropriate birthday for this sweet girl. She likes other dogs, we don’t know about cats or kids. Jewels has not been spayed yet as she has some skin issues that are being addressed by our vet. She is on Medical Hold so please check back for updates from her foster.
