Foster Update #2 - Oso has been in his new foster home for just over a week. He is an absolute sweetheart who loves cuddles, and stays close to his people. He was a stray but appears to have been someone’s pet as he knows basic commands, is potty-trained, and is ok in his crate. He goes straight to bed in our room (on his pillow) when we go to bed, and sleeps through the night. Oso made himself right at home on our couch when he first arrived, but he is so big we decided he wasn’t allowed on the couch. He now doesn’t try to get on the couch, he just goes to his pillow or lies on the floor next to us. He's interested in the pool, but hasn't gone in yet. Oso is good on a leash but is reactive to some dogs (not all) that we pass. He doesn’t snap at them, just barks excitedly. We haven’t figured out why he reacts to some and not others. Despite this, he is great with other dogs when he’s off-leash. We have taken him to the dog park several times with no reactivity and no other issues. We have also had him off-leash on a hike, and he stayed close to us and was not reactive to any of the many other off-leash dogs on the trail. We think he may be good either in a home with an older mellow submissive female or by himself. The vet estimates Oso is 5 years old but he still has some puppy tendencies, particularly taking shoes and socks. He usually doesn’t chew them, just puts them in his mouth. He is also a counter surfer, and because he is so tall long he can reach quite far onto the counter (RIP my sliced up mango and apple). Interestingly he doesn’t take whole fruit, he likes it be cut up. He can get excited and occasionally jump up on people to tell them how much he loves them. He’s 84 pounds so suggest he not be in a home with frail people or very young kids until he’s trained out of that behavior, which will require additional training. Overall, Oso is a wonderful dog who would make a great addition to a family with a big yard or who can walk him daily and is committed to working on his leash skills. Foster Update #1 - Oso is a healthy big boy ready to find his love match. He is a sweet, affectionate guy who sleeps well at night on a bed of his own, or yours. Although he will jump at the door when you leave, he settles down quickly and can be left alone with out incident. Currently Oso is living with a 3yr old female and they are getting along great. His play style is overly exuberant, and he has had a few incidents with other dogs, so a home with no other dog or a submissive female is best. He is learning to walk on a leash and making great progress. He loves a car ride and thinks he's a lap dog. He is quite tall when he stands, so counter surfing is fun and easy. He’ll make a great addition to a family with older children as he jumps, or anyone looking for a new buddy who is committed to continuing his training. Introduction - Oso joined Labrador Rescuers after being found as a stray. He is full of love for all people. He is a very large adult dog who can't wait to find his forever home. Please keep an eye out for this beauty as his foster family gets to know him.
