In addition to the adoption fee of $500, I will require a training deposit of $150 which is fully refundable upon completion of a training course.
Foster Update #2 - Vader’s needs in his ideal forever home:
* at least one other large canine buddy to romp and play with daily
* lots of snuggles on the couch or floor
* ideally no small critters (cats, hamsters, birds, etc)
* daily walks (1-2 miles minimum)
* exercise/playtime (with other dog(s) and/or humans)
* fine tune his training; he knows the basics
The unknown:
* swimming - no pool here
* children- he’s not been around children here, but I think he’d be ok around kids with proper introductions (except toddlers, he’d bowl them over)
Habits:
* housetrained, and learning the dog door (doors are kept open in current nice weather)
* takes treats gently and in turn
* loves peanut better kongs & marrow bones
* does well with my lab boys when I run errands
* has not destroyed anything in the house or yard
* barks when my lab boys bark at delivery trucks & gardeners
* tolerated a bath well
* wants to sleep on my bed (but gets off when I point to the dog bed)
Vader weighs 84lbs, his ideal weight is probably about 80 lbs.
Foster Update #1 - Vader is settling in nicely. He hangs out with my two Labs and is becoming friends with a small mixy terrier male. He seems to need outlets for his energy, and fetch is (I think) a new favorite, also long walks. After a workout, he lays or naps quietly until the next burst of energy. He’s had no exposure to children yet but he did meet cats, and they are probably not in his future. I think his ideal home will be with a family home more than not, with children (not toddlers) who will play and tire him out, and continue with his training. He would probably really enjoy a dog buddy as well. He’s been heeling nicely on walks but needs to be told to do so.
Introduction - Vader is a beautiful 3 yr old purebred boy. His service family made the difficult decision to release him to Lab Rescuers as they are in a small apartment without a yard, and have a brand new baby. They realized he needed more.
Vader has attended board & train and is well mannered, but will need a refresher in his new home. He rode all the way back to his foster home without a peep and enjoyed running around with our two Labs in a big yard all afternoon.
Watch for future updates as we get to know more about him.
