Foster Update -
We have had Erika for a full week now and she is just the sweetest. When Erika came to us she was very nervous and shy. She didn’t seem to know what toys were and had no leash skills. Erika is a sweet girl who seems to have not had a lot of positive human affection before. She doesn’t like to be alone and will follow us around the house and is always ready for pets and cuddles. She will gently put her paw on you when she wants more pets. She just figured out toys are fun and even started playing tug of war with our boy Jack. She takes treats gently and knows sit and shake. She met our cat and was just curious and sniffed her and moved on. Her little personality is starting to come out now as she is starting to feel comfortable in our home and she is overall a sweet and loving little golden. She has shown some leash reactivity and we had our first phone consult with the trainer today and will have our first in person session in 2 weeks. She has been reactive with other dogs while outside on walks but has no issues with our dogs or even visitors who have come over to our house. Erika would benefit from a family who has some experience with dogs and will be patient with her as she will need continued training on leash.
Introduction -
Erica was spotted at a shelter being overrun by her kennel mate and crouching at the gate. She appeared overwhelmed and shut down. Fast forward to landing in a home with volunteers and their dogs and she shed that behavior and became a lively, cuddly dog. She went on what may have been her first walk and her head swiveled from seeing bikers to joggers to dog walkers to lots of ducks. Erica knows “sit” but that’s about all. She does weave on the leash and wants to jump up to greet you but a basic training class will help her in those areas. She is a smart dog and wants to please. Erika had a fun time running around with her new dog friends and afterward would settle down on the couch or floor for a short nap then she was ready for more play. She didn’t seem to know what toys were but after a few days discovered a Benebone chew in the toy box and enjoyed munching on it. She rides great in the car and looks forward to lots of outings with her forever family. Oh, and she loves blueberries.
