Due to her history of chronic ear infections Marla is scheduled for TECA surgery, this will resolve her ear issues however she will be most deaf after her surgery.
Foster Update #1
- Marla is a very sweet and affectionate dog.
- gets along well with humans and dogs. She played with the resident Lab and two friends (2 Labradoodles) in the park this morning.
- takes treats ever so tender.
- walks nicely on a leash but can zigzag. Sometimes she stops in front of me to look at me, so could be surprising. She pulls really hard when seeing another dog / horse/ runner.
- does morning 1 hour walks with no problem and same at the end of the afternoon (45 to 30mn, most of the time in the park). We walk at her own pace which is pretty good. In the park, if I throw a ball gently, she likes to retrieve it and walk with it proudly, then let it go.
- sleeps all night on a dog bed in our daughter’s bedroom.
- can wait if asking before opening the door.
- waits when I prepare her bowl, eats slowly.
- is not counter surfing.
- does not come to see us when we are at the table for the meal, just sleeps next to the table.
- not destructive at all.
- not really interested in toys but can play with the resident Lab for a short time.
- enjoys a nap close to one of us.
- she is a loving Lab who needs to be reassured.
- Marla is adorable and very very gentle with a good energy level for a 9 year old Lab while being calm.
Introduction:
Don't let Marla's age fool you. She has a lot of life in her. She enjoys long walks and playdates with other dogs. Marla's family relinquished her to a local shelter after they no longer had the time to care for her. She grew up kids of all ages, and a cat. She may be cat friendly. Sweet Marla at 9 years old was at the shelter for a month when they reached out to us to help her. Marla was so happy during the dog to dog evaluation. She just wanted to play. She offered lots of play bows. She took treats nicely. She showed us she knows sit and shake. Marla is good on leash until she sees a dog she wants to meet. She will pull you over to say hi. We can't blame her as she has been cooped up for a month. Marla likes belly rubs. She rides great in the car. No issues getting in and out. She is new to the rescue. We are still learning about her. She is a happy and playful 9 year old. She can easily go for long walks and enjoy a playdate with another dog.
