My Senior Adoption fee is $150.
Foster Update #3 - First and foremost, she is really a sweet girl and has adjusted well to being part of our family.
Mya's skin, ear and UTI have cleared and she is doing much better. She still is receiving twice weekly medicated baths as well as a daily medicated wipe along her abdominal midline (between her rather large breasts).
I have had several family dogs as well as my grandchildren here and Mya does really well with them, she loves everybody. She seems very interested when we see other dogs on walks but no barking or lunging.
Walks have been short due to her heartworm but she behaves well on a leash. Tries very hard to walk with you but due to her ?ataxia she does frequently walk into you so I find I have to always be aware of where she is so not to trip up myself. Her gait when she walks is steady but not very coordinated. We nicknamed her 'Skippity do da'.
Mya didn't seem to know much in the way of commands but is getting better. We are working on stay, wait and 'back'. Sitting is a bit difficult due to the ataxia in her back legs. She will stay back when opening the door and there is no rushing the door. Luckily there really is not a malicious bone in her body.
There have not been any accidents in the house since her first couple days here.
Mya sleeps through the night in an open crate in my bedroom.
Miss Mya is a happy, rather low energy dog that just wants to spend her time being with her loved ones.
Foster Update #2 - Mya has been diagnosed positive for heartworm and has begun treatment. The heartworm treatment is expected to last approximately three months. She is anticipated to complete treatment in October.
Foster Update #1 - Mya has been with me for a week now and her sweet little personality is coming through.
-She is a very sweet and loving dog. Always has you in her sight.
-Very much a velcro dog, either walking next to you or on you, was tripped up because she is stepping on my shoes
-Doesn't seem to know basic commands so we are working on sit, stay, step back, lay down, 'go pee'
-Very good on a leash. She is currently restricted to low activities but no pulling on the leash and walks right next to you. Little to no interest in other dogs while on walks
-Have only had her in the car once. Had to pick her up to get her in but she settled in nicely and was quiet the entire trip
-Gets along well with my kick-back dogs, sometimes needs to be reminded of boundaries with dog toys
-Seem to have a short attention span with toys
-She is crate trained but does well free roaming the house, no issues when left alone in the house
-There was a few accidents in the house when she first arrived, but has done well with going outside and notifying me when she needs to go outside. She is not picky about going on the grass or the patio, she is an equal opportunity contributor
-Mya loves attention and you can see her melt when she is rubbed/scratched
-Sweet Mya deserves a loving home for her final chapter.
Mya does have some health issues that are being addressed:
-Ear infection has been treated with slow released medication and so far look good
-She is receiving every other day baths for skin infections, mostly on her tail and underbelly. She may require daily wipe to her mid-line abdomen area where her long saggy breasts meet, making a great area for breeding bacteria
-Poor Mya tested positive for heartworm and is currently on antibiotics and steroids for a month before receiving the big gun treatment near the end of this month. So far she is showing no symptoms of this except for lots of panting with the steroids
-UTI, she just completed her course of antibiotics and will do a follow up urinalysis to make sure it has cleared up
-Mya does have some mobility issues. Her front legs seem stiff and her back legs are wobbly and a bit unsteady at times, but she manages to get around okay. Bit of difficulty getting up stairs but is getting better at coordinating herself with it.
Introduction - A retiring breeder has entrusted Labrador Rescuers with this beautiful purebred AKC English Labrador to find their forever home. Friendly, engaging and sociable, this dog will make a wonderful pet to any home committed to their training. They will need basic training skills, but know some commands. Rides quietly in the car, gives sweet kisses and is eager to please. Walking on a leash is new to this pup and leash training is necessary. This dog comes with their AKC Registration Certificate. Please check back for updates as we learn more about their personality from their foster home.
