Foster Update #2 - Jetta has come such a long way in the six weeks we've had her! She came to us extremely shut down and afraid of humans but is now learning to be a cuddle bug! She is still very shy and timid with new people, but she has learned to trust me and gives me lots of affection. She ADORES her foster fur brother and rarely lets him out of her sight. They play together nicely and he is helping her build confidence. I love to watch them play together - they are both very vocal and she has this little song she cries to him to get his attention. It is so adorable! Jetta loves to go for walks with her foster brother and is good on a leash. She is completely house trained and stays by herself in the house without issue. She will sometimes go in her crate for naps during the day. She starts the evening sleeping on her own bed but magically EVERY morning she appears curled up next to us in bed. Jetta needs a home without young kids and a tolerant fur sibling is an absolute must. She will do best with a person or couple with lots of patience and experience with timid dogs. She is not the typical lab puppy that loves everyone - she needs to be given lots of time to warm up and feel safe. She is food motivated and loves to chase balls and chew on Yak bones. She has been in the water with her foster brother and I believe she will eventually be a very good swimmer/retriever. The vet thinks she will top out at about 40lb so she will be a small girl when fully grown. Foster Update #1 - Jetta is a sweetheart but still super timid with humans. It is clear that she didn’t have human contact in her previous situation - she is terrified of people - other than me. She has learned to trust me and seems very relaxed with me. She reluctantly allows my husband to pet her but won’t let him pick her up. She is still afraid of my 15 yo daughter and often barks at her when she enters the room. Jetta is officially housebroken in our home. Yay! When adopted she could have an accident in her new home. After all, she’s a puppy! She has made progress on the leash - at first she would just sit down and refuse to walk but now she is walking around the neighborhood! She absolutely adores my Lab/GSD Maverick and the feeling is mutual. They have really bonded and she follows him everywhere. She needs a home with another dog that will be her leader but tolerate/enjoy rough play and has a secure yard. Overall I think she has made tremendous progress, but she is a long way from trusting humans. She needs someone that will be super patient and has experience with dogs that are shut down. I’m hoping that with a few more weeks of socializing she will be ready to meet her forever family. Introduction - Jetta came to us a shy puppy. We don't know a lot about her yet. Please check back with us as learn who she is and her personality develops. All puppies require patience, lots of love, and commitment to their training and socialization.
