Foster Update 11.4.24
Quick update:
Frida is figuring it out and the dots are connecting, this sweet girl hasn’t had any accidents in the house in the last 3 days! We have given her a limited footprint she can travel, and she is starting to catch on to our routines. She is loving playing with her foster dog brothers (two goldens who are almost 5) and we are all enjoying her newfound energy. She still needs some more time to heal and get herself ready for her forever home but keep checking back for updates!
Foster Update 10.31.24
We have had Frida since Tuesday morning, she was spayed on Monday. She's recovering well and is the sweetest pup. She loves to give kisses and is a big wiggle butt!
We don't know anything about this girl's past so here is what we have observed over the last few days:
-She is nervous of new places and sounds. When she first met my dogs she had her tail completely under her and took a little bit to relax. Now she is relaxed and playing with them.
-Very food motivated and needs a slow feeder. Lets just say she gets super excited around all things food! She will take things off the counter if given the opportunity but also responds to No.
-Walks are a little overwhelming and takes some encouragement to keep moving forward, so with that in mind she isn't much of a puller. She was just spayed, so walks are short right now but each walk is getting easier and easier.
-She is getting more comfortable in her crate and is currently sleeping in there with the front door open. She barked in the middle of the night last night, because she needed to go to the bathroom and does sleep there all night. She just needs to be helped in there a tad, but then settles in after a few minutes.
-She isn't potty trained 100%. I think this is a long term habit of only going to the bathroom indoors because she definitely prefers that. She is leashed to us at all times and we are working hard to help her. With that in mind, this is something that might take a little bit of time and her new family will need to know this will be a work in progress. We've had success over the last 24 hours with a good routine, but I am not 100% confident the dots have connected and it could take weeks for this new habit to set in. So, she will need to be crated when left alone.
- She is skinny so we are working on a few meals throughout the day to help her increase her calories.
-She travels well in the car and just curls up on the floor.
She loves people and kids. She lit up when she met my kids (9&11). She isn't a jumper and is a pure lover. She came to soccer practice last night and was surrounded by eleven 10 year olds and ate it up!
The biggest thing this sweet girl will need is a patient family to help her with potty training. She has an amazing temperament and just needs a sable place where she can learn how to be a dog
Previous Update: Please welcome the cutest girl ever, Frida!
Frida came from a shelter in LA. She has some road rashes on her face and body and was suspected a hit-by-car victim. The shelter sent out a plea and we of course had to get her out of there. After our vet checked her out, she got the all clear! She is being spayed and will be ready to go to her foster home to recover before she starts meeting her new forever family. Frida is described as a super sweet girl by the vet staff and she might even be good with a cat pal in her new home. Please check back for the update from her foster parent
