2nd Vacation Foster Update: We have had Brett here with us for ten days. On his first day Brett had a chance meeting with Bruno, a massive Great Dane, Bruno and Brett chased ball and played without issue for close to an hour. The next day Brett hung out with our family and two very young children, he wasn’t bothered one bit by the kids running around and creating a little chaos, he was very patient and gentle around the kiddos. After these first two days, I knew everything I needed to know about Brett….this boy is super cool! Brett has great house manners, doesn’t bark in the house, doesn’t potty, doesn’t beg for food, doesn’t counter surf, doesn’t nose through the trash and he isn’t destructive. You could leave your favorite pair of flip flops next to him and he will not touch them. Brett sleeps quietly near my son’s bed and stays there until my son wakes up each morning. Brett is not fond of being outside for long periods of time without his people. If left out, he will bark. He came to us with a bark collar and while he is wearing it (outside only) he doesn’t make a peep. Brett likes his walks and when he sees the leash come out, he will prance around in excitement. We were told he had some minor leash pulling issues, but is not bad at all. If anything, he might be a little “leash curious” but there’s no aggression, he just wants to sniff and meet. With a slight tug on the leash, Brett moves right on past without paying any attention to the other dog. Brett is a “marker” on walks, if he could he would stop every couple feet to mark. We limit the marking by keeping him focused during the walk with a handful of sniff and pee breaks along the way. Brett is honestly a super easy dude. He’s pretty low energy, but still flashes some fun, goofy puppy energy every now and then. We have really enjoyed having him here with us. Whoever adopts this dude will be very lucky!!! 1st Vacation Foster Update: Brett is a totally sweet dog! He is about the same age as the resident male Lab mix. They play a ton! But then they sleep a ton! He does not have any interest in the pool. Just a really easy going Lab, no aggression, not a digger or a chewer. He just likes to play and run! He needs work on his leash skills but is going to be an awesome dog for the right person. Foster Update: Brett is a super sweet guy who will stay close, follow you around the house, lie on the couch next to you (but not on top of you) and generally keep you in his sights. He loves a good tummy rub or head scratch. He is good when left alone in the house, doesn’t chew furniture/clothes/etc., doesn’t counter surf, and is potty trained. He doesn’t ask to go out much but instead pees constantly on his walks, and saves his poops for the walks too. He did mark inside the house initially the first day or two but no issues since. Brett is low activity around the house during the day. He sleeps on his pillow in our bedroom at night and doesn't try to get up on the bed. He goes straight to his pillow/bed and settles immediately, and we don’t hear a thing until the morning. He is a good eater, wolfing down his food as soon as it’s in his bowl when we give him permission to start eating. He stays close while we’re eating, but doesn’t beg for our food. Brett needs an adopter committed to more training on leash skills. He pulls constantly on walks, wanting to sniff, mark and scratch every few steps. He also gets very excited when he sees other dogs, usually barking and pulling towards them. He just wants to be social and engage with them and play, but he is strong and pulls very hard. He had some training that improved this behavior somewhat, but he needs more and the consistent application of the new behaviors he learned in his training classes. His new family will need to be willing to continue this training and work with him to break him of his tendencies to sniff/mark and try to be social with other dogs while out on walks.

Introduction: Brett is a handsome Dudley lab with brown nose and eyeliner. He was one happy fella to leave the hot shelter. After some hesitancy hopping into the volunteer’s car, he rode like a champ and enjoyed ear and head scratches on the drive. Having a few treats, which he took gently, were an added bonus. The shelter estimated Brett's age at 7 years however he has the energy and appearance of a younger dog. Please check back as Brett is heading to his foster home and his new life!
