Hey there, my name is Hooch. My foster mom thinks I am a Black Lab and possibly Anatolian Shepherd mix. Anatolian Shepherd's instinct is to protect their inner circle and to alert for anything outside their inner circle. So I will safeguard if someone comes to the front door that I don’t know and bark to let you know, Because I was well trained by my prior owner, I know a lot of commands, and will stop barking when told. My special traits are most likely instinctual, and can’t be trained out of me. I am very much a super gentle, loving and affectionate soul. I am BFFs with my foster’s 10 year old daughter. I am nothing but gentle and sweet with her. I also am great with her 6 year old next door neighbor and mom as I know them and consider them part of my pack. When someone else comes over to our house, my Mom has me stay tethered as I get to know them which I have no problem with. I learn who is in my human's inner circle, build up trust and then interact with them very nicely. I really love, love being with my humans - lying at their feet or snuggling up with them on the couch. When they leave I never destroy anything and I am so excited when they get back home. I absolutely love to go for car rides and walks. I get in and out of the car easily and ride really well - it makes me so happy to be with them. I also walk well on the leash. I can be watchful to other male dogs while walking, but redirect easily. My foster mom says this about me, “Hooch is beyond loving and an amazing dog. He is a joy to have in our home. He is unbelievably handsome. He doesn’t beg for food or counter surf. He knows his commands very well. If someone does come to the door and he barks and I say it’s OK, he stops immediately. He takes treats so gently and has the sweetest soul. The ideal family for Hooch is one that is home the majority of the time, a mature or retired family that will not be having kids coming and going often. That has a yard that he can play in and play fetch. He is actually quite a mellow dog that likes to sleep most of the day and snuggle on the couch". I will say, I think it would be my dream to find a forever home with someone who lives out in the country, has a large lot of land, and possibly livestock. I would be a blessing to your family and be the best 88 lbs of tall, dark and handsome that will make your house a home. Foster Update #2: Hooch is beyond adorable. Such a love bug. His previous owners must have taken exceptional care of him. He loves to snuggle up next to you on the couch or bed. He loves to go for walks. He doesn’t pull on the leash. He doesn’t counter surf. He listens to directions and seems to know basic commands. He has a nice strong bark that he only does if someone is walking by the door, which is nice for home security, but he doesn’t keep on barking. When we get home, if I have left him, he is super excited to see me, so he may have a little bit of separation anxiety, but he doesn’t destroy anything, not a thing. He does have some skin/allergy issues which he is being medicated for. He takes treats gently. Hooch has a gentle soul and is super sweet with adults however he is nervous around children so will need an adult only home. Foster Update #1: Hooch is a pretty mellow guy, happy to find a dog bed and chill. He will play bow and engage in play if there is another younger dog to play with. He really likes toys, one by one he moved all of the nyla bones in the inside toy bin and collected them in pile in the yard. He has not shown any interest in the pool. He is completely housebroken and will sit for his meals. He jumps in the back of the SUV with ease and lays down for car rides. He gets very excited when putting the leash on but could use some work on his leash skills, he seems eager go please. He has been left alone with the other dogs for about an hour at a time and does ok but seems anxious, so may do best in a home with minimal alone time. He stays close when we are outside working in the garden, doesn't seem to have any desire to wander off. Overall Hooch is a sweet dog looking for a human to love him. Intro: We have no idea why Hooch was abandoned and ended up at a shelter, but Lab Rescuers found him and now he’s safe and on his way to a happy forever. On his first overnight in foster care, we’ve learned he is crate trained, knows some commands like sit and go to your bed, he doesn’t scarf his food, and we haven’t heard him bark. Check back as we learn more about this fun boy.
